Stephanie Dethlefs, writer

I write contemporary middle-grade fiction, creative nonfiction, blog posts and guest posts about writing and the writing life, and whatever else tickles my fancy.

Middle-Grade Fiction

Unspoken (2020)

Sam is used to being what everyone needs him to be. So when his family falls apart and he has to change middle schools, he keeps his feelings buried. Willa, an isolated 7th grader who doesn’t speak, captures his attention just by being herself. The two unlikely friends challenge each other to speak up in a story about the true power of friendship and what can happen when we believe in the importance of what we have to say.

Our stories matter.

A little more about me…

I live in Bellingham, WA with my husband, two teenagers, two cats, and a spunky dog. I love taking walks, coffee dates with friends, and naps. I enjoy bad jokes and puns more than anyone probably should.

I’m an avid reader, an introvert, an Enneagram 4, and I’m slightly obsessed with sunflowers and dahlias, though I can’t keep plants alive no matter what I do. I love to be in, on, or next to the water as much as possible.
